Why Spartan races are starting to fall behind.

Uncategorized Jan 01, 2019

One of the things I love about being an American Ninja Warrior athlete and involved in the National Ninja League competitions is the variation of obstacles in each of the challenges.

Yes, there are a lot of repeats, and yes there are staple obstacles in most of these competitions. And yet each and every year there is something new and exciting to face.

Which is why I plan on switching up my OCR races and have decided, at the moment, to stay away from any Spartan race in 2019.
I have yet to see Spartan races introduce a new obstacle since they introduced (or really reintroduced*) the Ape Hanger at the Palmerton Super in July of 2016. Instead they have decided to bring back the "Spartan Gladiators" so you can get hit as you cross the finish line.

THANKS FOR THE "EXTRA" CHALLENGE ;) oh wait maybe I should say beating at the end of the race.

Instead why not take a look at what other smaller OCR companies are doing, and coming up with new challenging obstacles that will test;

Joe DeSena I'm calling you out and asking you to become more innovative with the obstacles in these races. You've done a great job adding in new venues each year, creating unique medals and t-shirt designs, as well as constantly challenging your athletes to go for that next level.

Now I'm asking and challenging you to get creative and introduce a couple new obstacles each year to bring new life and excitement to the Spartan Races I've come to love and look forward to participating in. Because until I see that I'm going to hop in every other OCR race this year to see which has the best obstacles for me to face!
